BREAKING NEWS: Kyle Walker has surgery on his groin injury, leaving England's first-choice defender as a major doubt for the World Cup in a nightmare for Gareth Southgate

Kyle Walker's England World Cup place is in doubt after he underwent surgery on a groin problem.

The right-back, who is integral to Gareth Southgate's defence, missed Manchester City's 5-0 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Walker limped off during Sunday's 6-3 derby win over Manchester United, being replaced by Sergio Gomez after 41 minutes.

Now he faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup in Qatar, with England's first game against Iran on November 21.
